Chatsworth - Peak District Walk

Monday 15th April 2013

A sunny day was forecast so I headed out for a walk around Chatsworth. The end of the walk was new to me as I am in search of a waterfall that I have seen a photo of but never come across in the Peak District. This was my first attempt to find the waterfall.

Derwent Valley

As I start along the path across Rabbit Warren the view of the Derwent Valley opens up.

Harland Edge

Looking back Harland Edge dominates the skyline.

Rabbit Warren

Ahead of me the view takes in Calton Pastures and Longstone Edge.

Stand Wood

Heading into Stand Wood I was surprised to see this neatly stacked pile of logs.

Stand Wood

Sadly they have been created by the removal of the Rhododendrons that previously lined this path.

Swiss Lake

As ever the reflections in Swiss Lake are worthy of a shot or two.

Emperor Lake

Surprisingly Emperor Lake was deserted.

As I approached the Hunting Tower these snowdrops caught my attention.

Yet again I had the normally busy area in front of the Hunting Tower to myself.

Hunting Tower

A well timed photo. A few seconds after I took this the door opened
and the people presumably stopping there came out.

These tree roots caught my attention as I walked through the estate.

River Derwent

The bridge across the river was popular with photographers today.

Chatsworth House

The front of Chatsworth House is now clear of the scaffold and sheets that have covered it recently. It doesn't show up well in the photo but in reality the gold leaf on the building does stand out.

River Derwent

The weir was quite impressive today and I wasn't the only one who enjoyed their lunch here.

St Anne's Church

Daffodils in St Anne's churchyard.

Lee Moor Wood

Looking back across the valley towards Lee Moor Wood just before I enter Beeley Plantation.

Beeley Plantation

I had Beeley Plantation to myself.

Beeley Brook

I soon came upon the waterfall in the wood but it isn't the one I'm looking for. The photographer of the waterfall I saw in the book hasn't revealed its location, which is why I'm hunting for it.

Beeley Brook

My route back to the car was uphill alongside Beeley Brook.
